Katherine Albert lost 56 lbs. with PiYo. Here’s the story that she shared with the Beachbody Challenge contest.
Tell us about your life before you started the program. How did you feel about yourself and your body?
I feel everyone says the same thing in this box. I hated clothes shopping. I thought I just hated shopping but no, it was just that at the time everything I tried on made me feel like a slob. I was almost always depressed leaving the store, usually with nothing, feeling like garbage for the next couple of days. I hated going to any events or parties due to the fact that I never felt that good about anything.
What inspired you to change your life and begin your transformation journey?
Once I hit 202 pounds, it was obvious I needed to make a change. It was apparent the weight would just continue to slowly increase as it had been if I continued on the same path and didn’t make any lifestyle changes.
What is the greatest challenge you faced before beginning the program? How did the program and Beachbody help you overcome that challenge?
I absolutely live to eat. I get such satisfaction from eating, it’s not even funny. It doesn’t help that I’m also an emotional eater. So pretty much, if I was happy I’d eat, if I was sad, I’d eat… I just love to eat. It was also hard at first to figure out how much to eat and what to eat. Going to parties, I had to make a conscious effort to not drink alcohol, which would make me not care about the diet and the food flood gates would then open. After only maybe a week or so of clean eating, it did become easier. I definitely felt better than when I ate whatever I wanted, which is still true now. Shakeology definitely helps when I need a snack or get home and I’m starving. I have one of those, which will hold me over until dinner so I don’t raid the pantry or fridge.2 I gotta say Chalene cracks me up. I actually giggle during her workouts, though they were exceptionally hard at first. She was right, they actually do get easier… imagine that. It makes me laugh when she pretends she can see you.
What in particular did you like about the program you chose?
I like the low-impact part of it. It’s easier on my knees without all the jumping around; that also tended to give me a headache. I don’t get that with the PiYo program. I also loved that I immediately felt more stable and sure-footed, even after the very first workout. It felt really good!
Describe the results you achieved with your Beachbody program. Which achievements are you proud of?
What aren’t I proud of? My shoulders are coming back again, my stomach is flattening, my calves are smaller, and I don’t need to buy wide-calf boots anymore! I can do push-ups again! I haven’t done those in years! It’s awesome!
How has your life changed since completing your Beachbody program?
People are always intrigued by the visual change in me and it’s motivational to them, which makes me feel awesome! The fact that me just making a healthier change in myself makes others want to do the same and it starts a fire in them. It’s a great feeling when you can help someone else out mentally. I absolutely love the fact that I can go shopping when I need something and not want to cry myself to sleep in the dressing room anymore! I can find flattering things that look and feel nice. My only regret is that I let myself go as long as I did. Like they always say, a year from now, you’ll wish you had started yesterday.
